Why choose dermaplaning
Every day, our skin is exposed to harsh environmental toxins, irritants and UV rays. Unfortunately, this can leave the top layer of the skin looking dull in appearance, making us appear older than we really are.
Dermaplaning treatments at Skin Confidence are designed to remove a build-up of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair. Also known as epiblading, such treatments work to address a number of skin concerns and leave your complexion looking vibrant and smooth.
How does it work
Dermaplaning skin treatments work by dragging a sterile blade across the skin to scrape away dead skin cells and bacteria from the epidermis. By removing such debris, dermaplaning works to reveal the fresh, brighter skin underneath. Treatments can also effectively remove unwanted hair on the face, such as the ‘peach fuzz’ that grows around the neck and chin.
Exfoliation through dermaplaning treatments also works to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Evidently, by undergoing regular treatments, you can prevent signs of age from appearing. In addition to this, epiblading treatments offer a number of other benefits, such as better penetration of skincare products and a smoother, more even makeup application.
What to expect
Prior to your treatment, we recommend having a consultation at Skin Confidence to discuss your skin concerns, after which we can create a treatment plan tailored to you.
Your dermaplaning treatment will begin with a thorough cleanse of the skin. While dermaplaning treatments are not painful, we can apply a numbing cream to the face for your comfort. We will then use a sterile scalpel to scrape over your skin at a 45-degree angle. You may feel a slight tingling sensation as this occurs.
Expect your treatment to take around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treated area. Following your dermaplaning treatment, you are free to resume all daily activities immediately.

What can be treated with dermaplaning
Some of the skin concerns that can be treated with epiblading include:
- Dull skin
- Dry skin
- Acne scars
- Fine lines
- Sun damage
- Congested skin
- Fine, vellus hair on face
Dermaplaning treatments will make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
Ideal candidates for dermaplaning
As a non-invasive, no-fuss treatment, dermaplaning treatments are suitable for anyone for a solution to exfoliate the skin, remove peach fuzz and minimise minor signs of age. Epiblading treatments are suitable for all almost all skin types, with a few exceptions.
Unfortunately, people with active acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis are unsuitable for a dermaplaning treatment. The best way to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for treatment is to have a consultation at our clinic.
Treatment results
Dermaplaning treatments offer instant results. Immediately after your treatment, you will notice that your skin is smoother and soft to the touch, although it may take a few days for any redness to fade and for you to appreciate the full effects of treatment.
Keep in mind that results are not permanent. To maintain results over the long term, we’d recommend coming in for top-up treatments at Skin Confidence every four to six weeks.
How many treatments will I need
You will only need one treatment to achieve a noticeable difference in the appearance and texture of the skin. However, as mentioned, results are not permanent, and you may require additional treatments to optimise results.
For exfoliation purposes, we usually recommend around three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. If you are seeking dermaplaning to remove vellus hair, treatments will need to be repeated according to the growth cycle of your hair.
Dermaplaning recovery
There is absolutely no downtime required after an epiblading treatment at Skin Confidence, meaning that you are free to resume your regular activities immediately. You may, however, experience some slight redness or a feeling as though your skin has been scraped. This is normal and will resolve within a few days.
These treatments will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Therefore diligent sun care is a must following your treatments – we implore you to apply an SPF 50+ to the treated area daily.
Side effects
As a low-risk procedure, this treatment has minimal side effects, however, they may include redness, development of whiteheads and scarring.
Despite misconceptions, epiblading will not cause hair to grow back darker or thicker. This is because dermaplaning targets vellus hair on the face, as opposed to terminal hair.
