What are medical grade peels?
Age and sun exposure are two of the primary reasons why the skin changes. Collagen, elastin and hydration levels decline, lines and wrinkles become more prominent and pigmentation can appear.
At Skin Confidence Clinic, we use medical grade peels to decongest the pores and remove damaged skin cells. After just one peel, your skin will look smoother, more radiant and refreshed.
We offer three different peels, each of which has unique benefits and addresses specific concerns. Once we’ve evaluated your skin and have a better idea of what your concerns are, we can advise you on the right peel for your skin.
Medical grade peels at Skin Confidence
Ageless Collagen Peel
This leave-on collagen peel is infused with vitamin A and ideal for treating acne, pigmentation, melasma, and general signs of ageing. The peel also contains amino acids and an exfoliating AHA blend. Once the peel is applied, it works at a deep level to normalise cell production and revitalise your skin. The result is smoother, brighter, more youthful skin.
Salicylic Acid Peel
If acne is your primary concern, the salicylic acid peel is the best option. This peel deeply exfoliates the skin, breaking down the bonds that hold the skin cells together. Doing so causes them to peel or shed over several days. The result is a clearer, cleaner layer of skin. In the case of acne, it also helps kill the bacteria that cause breakouts.
The Jessner peel is a medium peel that treats ageing skin, melasma, and general pigmentation. The peel is made up of lactic and salicylic acid as well as other additional ingredients. Once applied, the peel removes the top layers of the skin, revealing a smoother, even tone underneath. The Jessner peel removes skin cells from the dermis, epidermis, and the top layer of the skin.

After the treatment
Patients are free to return to their normal activities directly after their medical grade peels appointment at Skin Confidence Clinic. However, the leave-on Ageless Collagen Peel will need to stay in contact with the skin for at least six hours. It’s for this reason that you may want to avoid any strenuous activities. The peel can be removed at home using a gentle cleanser.
Your skin may look slightly red for a day or two and there will be some mild flaking for several days too. This is completely normal and indicates your skin is regenerating. You can continue to follow your normal skincare regimen during the peeling phase. Since your skin will be sensitive, it’s important to use sunscreen whenever you leave the house. Any skincare products with active ingredients should be avoided for about a week.
We offer three different medical grade peels, each of which has unique benefits and addresses specific concerns.
What skin concerns can medical grade peels treat?
The treatment can address a wide range of skin concerns such as the following:
- Acne scarring
- Age spots
- Clogged pores
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Oily skin
- Rough, dry skin
Ideal candidates for medical peels
Medical peels are a highly versatile treatment, meaning that they are usually suited to anyone looking to improve the appearance of their complexion, while avoiding more invasive procedures. During your consultation at Skin Confidence Clinic, we will assess your skin concerns and health history to determine which peel will work best for you.
Medical peel downtime
Following a medical peel, you will notice that your skin may appear red or swollen. In the days after, your skin will feel dry and flaky, as it begins to peel: this is a normal part of the body’s natural wound healing response. Peeling usually resolves within three to four days, and your new, fresh skin will develop within a week.
During the healing process, you should moisturise frequently, avoid sun and heat and refrain from using skincare products with active ingredients.
How many medical grade peels will I need to achieve my desired results?
The number of treatments that you will need will depend on your skin condition. Most patients experience significant improvements in the appearance of their skin after three to six treatment sessions. For best results, we will conduct a thorough skin assessment before your procedure to determine the number of treatments that you will need.
How long will the results of the treatment last?
While not permanent, the results of a medical grade peel are long-lasting. To maintain a clear, youthful complexion, maintenance treatments may be required.
