Why remove Lumps, Bumps or Moles
Lumps, bumps, moles, we all get them. These skin abnormalities aren’t always something to worry about and many patients choose to have them removed for aesthetic reasons only.
Warts are the result of a strain of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that comes into contact with broken skin. The virus causes the cells in the area to multiply at a rapid pace, which creates a wart on the outside layer of the skin. Warts are not dangerous but they are contagious. They can be unsightly and rub up against clothing, which is why they need to be removed.
Cysts appear when fluid, pus or gas collects under the skin. Cysts are mostly caused by blocked sebaceous glands or a general infection. Unless they’re drained, they can become painful and eventually, rupture. The infection also has the potential to spread if left untreated.
Lumps, Bumps & Mole Treatment Options
Unwanted cysts can be surgically excised at the Skin Confidence clinic by one of our qualified doctors. Depending on the size of the cyst, any fluid will be drained and excess skin will be cut away before the area is sutured and covered to prevent further infection. A local anaesthetic is used to eliminate pain and discomfort during the procedure.

At Skin Confidence, we use the Ellman Surgitron device to remove moles, skin tags and warts that protrude above the surface of the skin. The Surgitron device uses radiofrequency energy to gently shave the growth away, while cauterising the skin at the same time. We prefer this device because it leaves the skin looking and feeling smoother once it’s healed. It also offers better depth control than other devices, which reduces the likelihood of scarring.
The area will need about a week or two to heal but patients are free to resume their usual activities directly after their appointment. However, any exercise routines that could stretch and damage the treated area should be avoided until it’s fully healed. A small scab will form over the treated area, leaving a pinkish mark that will gradually fade away.
Regardless of the treatment option you decide on, it’s important to keep the area clean and protected from the harmful rays of the sun, particularly while it’s still healing. We will also provide you with specific aftercare instructions that will keep scarring to a minimum.
